NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Long Island woman was arrested after she threatened to kill her neighbor and then bit a responding officer, Nassau County Police said.

Jennifer Pettway, 40, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree menacing, fourth-degree attempted grand larceny and resisting arrest after the altercation at her Broadway apartment in New Cassel on Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the apartment around 11 a.m. after Pettway threatened to kill her neighbor, a 51-year-old woman, during a dispute, police said.

Pettway was "irate and violent towards the responding officers" when they arrived, according to police, who said she was throwing items out of her apartment and refusing to come outside to speak.

Officers at the scene then requested assistance from the Emergency Services Unit, police said.

As ESU officers attempted to speak with Pettway, one of them placed his plastic protection shield in the doorway to prevent her from closing the door.

That's when Pettway grabbed the officer's forearm and bit him, according to police, who said the officer suffered "substantial pain" as well as "contusion and swelling."

Police were then able to enter the apartment, but Pettway "refused to comply with multiple verbal commands and actively resisted arrest," police said.

After a brief struggle, she was taken into custody, according to police.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
