NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — One person has died in a Manhattan apartment fire that injured five others, including an FDNY firefighter, officials said Tuesday.
The flames broke out just before 9 p.m. Monday on the fourth floor of an apartment building on Sullivan Street in SoHo, fire officials said.
A 95-year-old father and 71-year-old son were in critical condition, and a firefighter suffered a serious injury, officials said.
New York City Councilman Erik Bottcher said in a tweet that one of the victims in the blaze had died. The identity of the victim wasn't immediately clear.
Conditions inside of the apartment made the blaze difficult to put out, according to officials.
“The apartment had heavy clutter. They pulled out two victims from the apartment, and a third victim was later assisted out,” FDNY Deputy Chief Micheal Barvels said.
Officials are continuing to work to determine the cause of the fire.
