1 killed in wrong-way crash on Brooklyn expressway, driver arrested

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A wrong-way driver was arrested early Friday after a crash left one person dead in Brooklyn, according to authorities.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., a 23-year-old man was driving in the wrong direction up the eastbound ramp of the Gowanus Expressway to the Fort Hamilton Parkway in Bay Ridge when he struck the guard rail, the NYPD said.

The driver's 29-year-old passenger was transported to NYU Langone Brooklyn where he was pronounced dead.

Officials took the driver into custody on DWI charges.

An investigation remains ongoing.
