NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two dozen people were arrested as pro-Israel and pro-Palestine protesters clashed in Times Square on Thursday evening, and the NYPD said its Hate Crimes Task Force was investigating an attack on a Jewish man nearby.
As Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire, dueling protesters faced off at the Crossroads of the World.
Police were out in force trying to keep the two sides apart as protesters charged at one another and punches and projectiles were thrown.
At one point, police said commercial fireworks were used as a weapon amid the violence.
The arrests include charges of obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, unlawful assembly, disorderly conduct and criminal possession of a weapon.
The NYPD said its Hate Crimes Task Force was investigating a group assault on a Jewish man in the area.
The victim refused medical attention at the scene.
Israel and Hamas agreed to a cease-fire Thursday in an 11-day war that caused widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip and left more than 200 people dead.
