NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A pair of Goodwill employees have been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $43,000 from the store over the span of nine months, police said Wednesday.

Elana Sofia, 29, of Port Jefferson, and Sandra Bonilla, 33, of Brentwood, were both charged with third-degree grand larceny this week, Suffolk County police said in a press release.

Sofia and Bonilla both worked at a Goodwill store on Jericho Turnpike in East Northport, according to police.

Between November of last year and this past August, the two stole more than $43,000 from the company's bank deposits, police said.

Sofia was arrested on Monday and Bonilla was arrested on Tuesday, according to police.

Their attorney information wasn't immediately available Wednesday.

"Goodwill NYNJ thanks the authorities for appropriately conducting the investigation of this isolated incident perpetrated against a venerable 106-year-old charity," a Goodwill NYNJ spokesperson said in a statement. "We are disappointed for this unfortunate issue at one of our stores, but are reassured that it will not stop our work of breaking employment barriers for individuals with disabilities and other disadvantages."
