MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Two Nassau County police officers were injured in a car crash while conducting a traffic stop on Long Island Sunday evening.

At about 7:30 p.m., officers stopped a 2005 Audi and exited their unmarked patrol vehicle to conduct a vehicle and traffic law stop on the eastbound side of Sunrise Highway near East Chestnut Street in Massapequa.

While conducting the investigation, a 76-year-old man in a 2021 Honda struck the rear of the parked police unit causing it to strike both officers before colliding with the parked 2005 Audi, authorities said.

Both officers sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The driver of the Honda was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

There was no criminality involved and no further injuries were reported.
