NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two people died in drownings off Brooklyn and the Jersey Shore on Monday, officials said as several others were hospitalized after being pulled out to sea.

The victims included a 55-year-old woman who drowned off Manhattan Beach and a man who drowned off Seaside Heights in Ocean County.

The woman was pulled from the waters off 1448 Oriental Blvd.
shortly after 6 p.m. Citizen App video appears to show first responders rushing her from the beach.

She was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health.

The beach was reportedly unguarded at the time, as NYC lifeguard hours are between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The male victim was among seven people who got caught in a rip current while swimming off an unguarded beach at Webster Avenue around 7 p.m., according to Seaside Heights fire officials.

While six people were rescued, the man was found lifeless and pronounced dead at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Three of the other swimmers were hospitalized.

Monday's rescue came after the Seaside Heights Fire Department reportedly rescued a dozen people from rip currents over the weekend.

Neither of the victims had been identified as of Tuesday.
