NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 16-year-old girl was critically injured near the Stonewall Inn on Sunday night after she attempted to shoot a teen boy but struck a 17-year-old bystander and was then accidentally shot by an accomplice in an altercation that left a third girl stabbed, police said.

The gunfire erupted at 3 Sheridan Sq. in Greenwich Village around 10:15 p.m., police said. The Pride March was over by that point, but celebrations continued into the night.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Monday that the shooting wasn’t connected to the Pride celebrations other than by proximity. He said it was an argument involving “10 to 12 teenagers from Brooklyn and a yet identified group.”

By reviewing video and speaking with witnesses, investigators found the 16-year-old girl had a gun and had weaved her way through the crowd to target a 17-year-old boy.

“This female then produces a 9mm pistol, places it inches away from that male’s head and pulls the trigger two times,” Kenny said.

She missed him “by some miracle,” Kenny said, but a stray bullet struck a bystander in the leg. The bystander is a 17-year-old girl from New Jersey who was shot in the thigh and was recovering.

As the female shooter fled with a group of about a dozen teens, a 17-year-old male in her group fired into the crowd—and one of the bullets struck her in the head, according to Kenny.

Another 17-year-old girl was stabbed in the abdomen during the incident and walked into NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where she was in stable condition.

Police are still searching for the male who they believe fired the shot that struck her.

The shooting scene was about a block south of Christopher Park and the Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the LGBTQ rights movement.

In a statement posted to X, Mayor Eric Adam said, “Saddened to learn about the shooting by the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were winding down.”

“During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating,” the mayor continued. ”We’re praying for the speedy recovery of the victims in tonight’s shooting. The NYPD will work quickly and tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice.”

About two hours before the shooting, six people were injured when someone sprayed bear repellent in Washington Square Park, police said.

It's unclear what sparked the spraying around 8 p.m. One person was taken into custody, police said.
