NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – Authorities are investigating after an unoccupied passenger train, while switching tracks on the Upper West Side, derailed and collided with a northbound 1 train, according to officials.

The first car of the train made contact with a work train between 96th Street and 110th Street which led to the derailment as it was leaving the station, according to the MTA.

Twenty-four people were injured, all with minor injuries, according to the FDNY.

The injured included one MTA crew member, according to the police.

Passengers were evacuated.

An investigation is ongoing.

This incident has caused significant delays across multiple subway lines, including the 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 lines.

The disruption is partly due to the 4 and 5 trains sharing tracks with the rerouted trains.

As a safety measure, power has been shut down for the 1, 2, and 3 lines north of 72nd Street.

The NYPD announced that they have closed Columbus Avenue from West 96th Street to West End Avenue to vehicles.

An MTA spokesperson stated during a press conference that they are making every effort to restore train services and ensure readiness for tomorrow's commute, but could not guarantee it.
