NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Three subway lines were suspended Monday as the MTA continues to deal with coronavirus-related staffing shortages.

Officials said Monday morning that service on the B, W and Z lines was temporarily suspended.
“Like everyone in New York, we've been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 surge,” NYC Transit tweeted, echoing similar statements they’ve made in recent weeks when suspending lines because of staffing issues.
Officials noted that the impacted routes “exclusively serve stations that have at least one other subway line available.”

It's unclear how long the suspensions will last, but earlier suspensions were in effect for about a week.
The MTA has repeatedly announced the suspension of some lines since the omicron variant started fueling a surge in COVID-19 cases in the New York City area in December.
The B, W and Z lines were previously suspended for a week late last month because of staffing issues.
Hundreds of MTA workers have reportedly called out sick recently. FDNY and NYPD staffing has also been impacted by the surge in cases.
