
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A fire broke out at a Manhattan hotel Saturday evening leaving five people injured, including three firefighters, fire officials said.
The fire was first reported about 25 feet above the subway tracks underneath the Travel Inn on 42nd Street near 10th Avenue around 5:30 p.m., authorities said.
The seven-story building was evacuated and the 2-alarm fire called for over 100 firefighters to respond. The blaze was under control by 8:15 p.m., the FDNY said.
Two of the people in the hotel were taken to Roosevelt Hospital. The three firefighters were also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The hotel is partially used as a homeless shelter. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
