NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- At least 13 people were injured when a Long Island Rail Road train derailed in Queens on Thursday morning--and officials said the Thursday evening commute, and maybe Friday morning's commute, will be impacted.
All eight cars of the train derailed at 11:15 a.m. east of Jamaica Station at 175th Street and 93rd Avenue, MTA officials said. All of the train cars remained upright after the derailment.
The train was a 10:43 a.m. departure from Grand Central that was bound for Hempstead with 100 people aboard.
All injuries are non-life threatening, the FDNY said.
Eastbound trains were bypassing the Hillside, Hollis and Queens Village stops ahead of the evening rush on Thursday.
"There will be service changes tonight for the evening rush hour and possibly tomorrow during the morning rush hour," the MTA said.
Gov. Kathy Hochul released a statement saying she'd been briefed on the derailment.
"State personnel, including MTA officials, are currently at the scene assisting with emergency response and responding to injuries," the governor said. "Our top priority is ensuring all passengers and railroad workers are safe and that train service resumes as quickly as possible."
