NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor Eric Adams told reporters it’s too “early” to make a decision on whether to fire his Department of Buildings commissioner Eric Ulrich, after the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office questioned him and seized his cellphone on Tuesday.

The DA executed a search warrant on Ulrich as part of an illegal gambling probe. It’s unclear the scope of the investigation or whether it involves anyone besides the commissioner.

“We’re going to take it as the days go,” Adams told reporters at an unrelated press conference. He elaborated that the administration would make a decision based on the DA’s findings.

Ulrich is a former Republican City Council member who served as a senior advisor to the mayor before he was hired as Buildings commissioner in May to the tune of a $240,000 yearly salary.

He’s also a heavy gambler. He reported more than $50,000 in lottery winnings on his financial disclosure report this year. Similar reports of his gambling habit date back to documents released during his 12 years as a City Council member.
