NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will be leaving his rent-stabilized Astoria apartment to reside at Gracie Mansion following his inauguration on Jan. 1, he announced this week, and departing resident Mayor Eric Adams has some advice: “Beware of the ghost.”
“I told [Zohran] about it. So the ghost is there,” Adams joked to Fox News producer Chase Williams during a Tuesday visit to Washington, D.C., Williams posted to X.
“It's a friendly ghost, as long as you're doing right by the city,” the mayor continued. “If you don't become right by the city, he turns into a poltergeist.”
The warning about the specter seemed to be wrapped in a warning about his approach to governance and comes one week after Adams met with Mamdani for the first time to discuss the transition of power.
Despite the pair’s tumultuous and often critical relationship, Mamdani lauded Adams’ staff for ensuring the change “continues to be smooth.”
“I think the best level of appreciation is duplication, and I think they're going to duplicate a lot of things we've done,” Adams said after the meeting.
The mayor has long believed there to be a spirit haunting the 226-year-old Yorkville mansion, first noting his suspicions during a Yankees press booth appearance in 2022.
“I don’t care what anyone says, there are ghosts in there, man,” Adams said.
Months later, he doubled down on the claim in an interview with 1010 WINS, saying that there are ghosts in the house, “But they are definitely from the state of Casper, they are friendly ghosts.”
