NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Alternate side parking rules were back in full effect on Tuesday, after a two-year hiatus, with most drivers now having to move their vehicles at least twice a week.
In May 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, then-Mayor Bill de Blasio reduced the policy that required drivers to move their cars for street cleaning.

Most car owners will now have to move their vehicles twice a week for street sweeping or risk a $65 ticket.
Some areas will require vehicle owners to move there car three or more times a week.
Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch made the announcement of the full return of alternate side parking in April.
"The partial suspension of [alternate side parking] was a pandemic measure to let people stay inside, but it went on for far too long," she said.
Tisch added that the COVID-era decision has also led to the streets' becoming more filthy, with some cars not moving all together.
Hundreds of city residents have signed an online petition to reverse the policy back.
