NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A spate of COVID-19 cases have left a Manhattan animal shelter short-staffed — and the facility is seeking foster homes for pets in the meantime.

Animal Care Centers of NYC temporarily closed its Manhattan Care Center in East Harlem on Wednesday due to “COVID cases among staff and subsequent quarantines,” the shelter wrote on social media.

The shelter is now looking for volunteers to foster some of the pets for which it cares.

“We have begun the process of transporting as many animals as we can to our Brooklyn and Staten Island Care Centers,” the shelter wrote. “Several New Hope partners have stepped up to help, including Animal Haven, ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society and Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn.”

“Our volunteers continue to help every, single day,” it added. “We are working with our fosters to place cats and level 1 dogs.”

The shelter’s open sites will only be providing emergency services for “critically ill or injured animals” at this time, the Facebook post noted.
