NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A brutal arctic front has descended upon the tri-state area on Monday bringing dangerously cold temperatures and leaving thousands of residents in the dark.

As of 4:00 AM, Con Edison reported that over 2,200 customers are currently without power across five counties. The outages are most severe in Brooklyn, where 1,177 customers are affected. Other impacted areas include Queens with 955 outages, the Bronx with 37, Manhattan reporting 19, and Westchester two outages.

The power failures come as temperatures are expected to plummet. While today will see some sunshine, it will remain breezy and cold with a high of only 36°F.

Temperatures will drop to a low of 18 Monday night, with AccuWeather RealFeel temperatures hovering near zero due to blustery winds.

A slight reprieve arrives Wednesday with a high of 34 before a potential snow shower moves through the region on Thursday.

Utility crews are currently working to restore service, but residents are urged to take precautions against the extreme cold.
