NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A military veteran was reportedly arrested Wednesday after slashing a 50-year-old man with a hatchet multiple times Sunday night.

The New York Post reports Aaron Garcia, 37, was charged with attempted murder for the brutal attack.

He was arrested after he was released from Bellevue Hospital where he was being evaluated after police allegedly found him on Tuesday smashing car windows in Chelsea around 10 p.m.

Sources told the Post that Garcia is the suspected culprit behind a previous unprovoked attack in Lower Manhattan on Aug. 3 — kicking someone on South Street around 6:20 p.m. Yonkers police sought him as well for a Feb. 15 assault and other crimes he failed to appear in court for.

The victim told police he was attacked when he went inside a Chase Bank ATM vestibule on Broadway near Morris Street at 5:22 p.m.

The customer was reportedly struck in the head three times and once in the leg, according to The New York Daily News.

Authorities said EMS responded and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital.

A NYPD spokesperson told the Daily News that officials believe the attack was unprovoked.

Witnesses described the scary incident to the Post.

"It’s crazy," an onlooker said. "People were shouting and we saw the guy laying down — a lot of blood."
