NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An ATM thief rammed an unmarked police car in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning as he fled responding officers, the NYPD said.
The officers were attempting to apprehend the man just before 6 a.m. when he drove into their car.
Police said the thief had hauled an ATM out of a bodega at Halsey Street and Broadway in Bushwick earlier in the morning and drove off in a van with it.
The owner of the bodega was able to track the ATM down to the intersection of E. 96th Street and Church Avenue—about 2.5 miles away in East Flatbush.
As police tried to stop the thief, he tried to drive off in the van and struck the unmarked police car.
The suspect then fled on foot, police said. He was still being sought Tuesday.
The ATM was recovered at the scene.
No injuries from the confrontation were immediately reported.
