NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD confirmed on Thursday that they arrested a Bronx man who allegedly broke into an Upper East Side apartment over the weekend and raped a 29-year-old woman in her own home.

Donovan Murphy, 28, is charged with rape, assault, strangulation, burglary and grand larceny

He is accused of entering the survivor's residence near East 93rd Street and First Avenue, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, at around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

Murphy, who police said the survivor does not know, allegedly forced his way into the woman’s apartment before forcing himself on her.

She was transported to Lenox Hill Hospital in stable condition.

Police released surveillance images of the rapist clad in a green jacket, white shirt and blue jeans late Saturday night to help in his apprehension.

A woman who lives in the vicinity of the crime scene told 1010 WINS on Sunday that the attack is beyond worrying.

“You know what, there’s so much to be concerned about, I’m at the maximum level of concern that I’m almost numb,” she said.

Anyone who is a victim of sexual assault is urged to contact the 24-hour NYPD Special Victims Division hotline at 212-267-RAPE (7273).
