Attacker jumps on 84-year-old woman in East Harlem attempted robbery

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police are looking to identify a woman accused of attacking an 84-year-old woman in an attempted robbery in Manhattan, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, in the vicinity of East 117 Street and Madison Avenue in East Harlem, the NYPD said.


According to officials, the victim noticed that she was being followed as she was walking home.

When the woman went to open the gate to the front of her residence, the suspect jumped on her back, causing her to fall, authorities said.

The suspect proceeded to try and remove the victim's purse, but was unsuccessful in doing so and fled on foot on Madison Avenue, officials said.

The victim suffered minor injuries to her right arm and right hand.

The suspect is described as a woman with a medium complexion. She was last seen wearing a long black jacket with a brown fur trim around the hood, a black and white bandana as a mask, glasses, blue jeans, and black/white sneakers.
