NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A newborn boy was found Thursday morning outside a swanky apartment building in Chelsea neighboring the High Line, and the infant's mother was soon after found and charged with child abandonment, police said.

The baby—who was unclothed and still had his umbilical cord attached—was discovered around 3:20 a.m. by a doorman who heard the child crying in front of 515 West 23rd St.

The doorman sought help from two rookie EMTs who were leaving work at FDNY EMS Station 7 across the street, police said. Blood was still visible later in the day beside a pillar of the High Line.

“The umbilical cord was still attached to the child, was abandoned near a pole supporting beam, under the High Line. It was fresh, it was a fresh delivery, so it probably happened moments before," said Mia Chin, who along with Patrick Feimer, was flagged down by the doorman.

The baby was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.

At the same hospital, police discovered 37-year-old Ayatta Swann who was arrested and charged with child abandonment.
