NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A baby girl was found in a shopping bag on the doorstep of a home in the Bronx, police said Monday as they released images of the person who they believe left the child.
A resident heard cries around 6 a.m. Sunday, and found the days-old infant on the doorstep of 1102 Rev. James Polite Ave. in the Longwood section, police said.
The baby was naked but had been wrapped in blankets and placed in the bag, according to cops.
Police and EMS responded to the scene, and the child was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition. She remained in the care of staff.
Mamadou Hafiz Jallow told News 12 that he got a call from a neighbor: “He said, ‘There’s a baby at your door, at the entrance of your house.’ I said, ‘Baby?’”
“Something that I’ve never seen, something that never happened to me,” Jallow said.

The NYPD released images Monday of the person who they believe left the baby on the doorstep.
According to police, that person did not follow New York State's Abandoned Infant Protection Act, which “allows a parent to abandon a newborn baby up to 30 days of age anonymously and without fear of prosecution -- if the baby is abandoned in a safe manner.” Safe places include a hospital or a staffed police or fire station.
Sunday's discovery came just two days after a week-old baby girl was found dead in an apartment building in the Bronx on Friday morning.
