NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — President Joe Biden will visit New York City and New Jersey on Tuesday, Sept. 7, to survey the devastating impacts of Ida, the White House announced Saturday.
Biden will head to Queens and Manville, NJ, areas rocked with flooding during the deadly storm. He'll return to New York City later in the week to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
At least 43 people were killed across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut — including 13 in New York City — as Ida surged up from Louisiana, leaving more than 100,000 homes in the area without power.
Biden traveled to Louisiana Friday afternoon to meet with officials, speak with residents and survey the damage after Ida battered the state as a category 4 hurricane.
During his meeting at the St. Johns Parish Emergency Operation Centerwith leaders, including Gov. John Bel Edwards, Biden stressed his "Build Back Better" agenda.
“It seems to me we can save a whole lot of money, a whole lot of pain for our constituents, if we build back, rebuild it back in a better way,” Biden said.
In addition to visiting New York on Sept. 11, Biden will also travel to the other two sites of the terror attacks at the Pentago and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
