NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 66-year-old bodega employee was killed in a drive-by shooting in Upper Manhattan on Tuesday evening, according to police and residents.

Reda Girgis, 66, was shot in the head around 7:10 p.m. outside Chop Cheese Deli 2 at W. 162nd Street and Broadway in Washington Heights.

He was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan.

Witnesses described people running from the gunshots and the mortally wounded victim lying on the sidewalk.

Police believe Girgis was a bystander and not the intended target of the shooting.

His home address is listed as the bodega, and neighbors said he either owned or worked at the business.

Police were searching for a gray Audi SUV that they believe the shooter opened fire from.

It's unclear who the shooter may have been aiming for. No other injuries were reported.
