NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An 8-year-old boy and his father were among three people wounded in a shooting in Queens on Wednesday night, police said.

The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. on 178th Street, near 119th Road, in St. Albans, according to police.

Police believe multiple shooters fired from a dark-colored sedan, striking the boy, his 39-year-old father and a 59-year-old man. Nineteen shell casings were found at the scene.

The boy, who was standing near a bicycle, was shot in his left shoulder. His father was shot in his left leg and foot. The 59-year-old was shot in the right shin.

All three victims were taken to Jamaica Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

A source tells 1010 WINS that the father was believed to be the intended target; he is a suspected gang member with 17 prior arrests who was also shot in 2013 and again in 2015.

No arrests have been reported as the investigation continues.

The three victims were among seven people shot across the city overnight. One of the victims, a 33-year-old man, died in a shooting in East Flatbush.

The shooting comes amid a spike in gun violence in the city. There have been 500 shooting incidents with 564 victims (wounded or killed) through May 18 this year, compared to 277 shooting incidents with 316 victims over the same period last year, according to the NYPD.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association, a police union that has been critical of City Hall in the past, responded to the shooting on Twitter.
