NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 27-year-old Bronx man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Tuesday in the death of his infant son who he threw to the ground in 2019.

Christian Rodriguez pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of the 6-week-old infant, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said. Rodriguez faces five years of post-release supervision after his prison sentence.
“The defendant’s newborn was crying and instead of comforting him, the defendant threw him to the ground, ending his life,” Clark said. “The defendant’s violence is unconscionable and unfitting of any parent.”
Rodriguez first told police he accidentally hit the baby’s head on a bedroom doorframe, officials said, but later admitted he’d actually thrown the baby to the ground in a fit of anger after returning home from the infant’s grandmother’s house who lived a few buildings over.
“I got angry and threw Aiden to the ground face first,” the criminal complaint said. “I got frustrated and threw him to the ground.”
A scan showed the baby, Aiden Rodriguez, suffered numerous injuries including fractures to his skull, an acute subdural hemorrhage, a scattered left acute subarachnoid hemorrhage, a midline shift of the brain and bruising to both sides of the head. His cause of death was from abusive head trauma.
This wasn’t the first time Rodriguez faced criminal charges related to his children. In 2015, Rodriguez was charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child after he allegedly told police he dropped his infant daughter out of frustration. The baby had bruising and swelling around her face and nose.
