NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Rudis Rodriguez, a Bronx real estate agent who owns his own business, found himself in a state of panic when he realized his laptop had just been carted off by a garbage truck.

He had taken his laptop and hard drive out of his car when he took it to get washed on Thursday and specifically asked a house painter not to touch the garbage bag he placed them in.

When he came looking for his belongings though, they were gone.

“Came back, and everything was gone,” Rodriguez told 1010 WINS. “[I] called the guy up and he said ‘well you know, probably one of my workers threw it away.'”

He called the Department of Sanitation and pleaded with them to help. They agreed to hold the truck and let him dig in.

It was not a pleasant experience, but, thanks to the DOS, Rodriguez has his laptop back.

“I don’t even know if it was dead animals or food,” he said. “It was disgusting. It was smelling bad.”
