NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Bronx man whose body was found wrapped inside a blanket and a garbage bag in the East River in January was murdered, the NYPD said Thursday.
Officers responding to a 911 call found 48-year-old Sergio Alvarez' body floating in the East River, near the Astoria Ferry Terminal, around 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 11, police said.
Alvarez' body was stuffed into a garbage bag and wrapped in a blanket that had been secured with duct tape when police found him, the NYPD said.
The department on Thursday deemed his death a homicide, without providing additional details.
No one had been arrested in connection with his death as of late Thursday morning, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
