NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A statue of the baby Jesus was decapitated in an act of vandalism over the weekend, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn said Monday.
The statue outside the Diocese's administrative offices in Windsor Terrace was vandalized around 3 p.m. on Sunday, the NYPD confirmed to 1010 WINS.
The full statue depicts Jesus' mother Mary holding her son in her arms.
"Jesus, held in the arms of His Mother Mary, was decapitated. The destruction was discovered by a facilities manager and immediately reported to the New York City Police Department," the Diocese said on Twitter.
"The crime is currently being investigated as a hate crime," it added. "The Diocese will repair the statue."
No one had been arrested in connection with the vandalism as of Monday afternoon, the NYPD said. An investigation is ongoing.
