NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Hundreds of mourners gathered Thursday for the funeral of a fallen NYPD officer who was fatally shot during a botched robbery in Brooklyn over the weekend.
Officer Adeed Fayaz, 26, was taken off life support Tuesday at Brookdale University Hospital after being shot Saturday.
Fayaz was a five-year veteran of the force and a married father of two young children from Deer Park, Suffolk County. He worked out of the 66th Precinct.
While he was killed while off duty, he received a full NYPD funeral.
His funeral was held at the Makki Masjid Muslim Community Center on Coney Island Avenue in Midwood.

Mayor Eric Adams, who is a former NYPD officer, was the first to give a eulogy for Fayaz.
“We lost our brother officer to a senseless act of violence,” the mayor said. “It’s something we believe we are obligated to place ourselves in harm’s way to prevent families from enduring such pain.”
Hundreds NYPD officers and other law enforcement members lined Coney Island Avenue for the service. Speakers were set up outside for the overflow crowd.
Fayaz was shot as he and his brother-in-law answered a bogus Facebook Marketplace ad to buy a Honda Pilot on Ruby Street in East New York around 7 p.m. Saturday.
The purported car-seller instead pulled a gun on the two men and tried to rob them. He put Fayaz in a headlock during the robbery, and when Fayaz broke free, he shot him in the head, according to police.
Fayaz’s brother-in-law grabbed a gun from Fayaz’s hip and returned fire as the would-be robber fled the scene in a BMW, police said.

The BMW was later connected to the shooting suspect, Randy Jones, 38, who was taken into custody at a hotel in Nanuet, Rockland County, on Monday.
More than 100 police officers filled the courtroom Wednesday as Jones was arraigned on charges of murder and attempted robbery. He was held without bail.
Jones has three prior arrests, including an arrest for strangulation in New York City and two arrests out of Virginia.
Police are investigating his possible connection to similar robberies in Brooklyn and Queens.
