Rabbi Asher Altshul found the word “Hitler” written on the facade of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Sheepshead Bay when he arrived at 6:30 a.m.

City Councilmember Inna Vernikov posted a video of herself in front of the graffiti in which she condemned the vandalism.

Vernikov also pointed out there are Holocaust survivors who attend the synagogue.

“This is not just something we’re seeing in the media. This is happening in our own backyards,” said Vernikov. “There are Holocaust survivors who attend this shul and after the atrocities they have seen during WWII they now have to come to a synagogue in the United States of America in 2022 and see a ‘Hitler’ sign on the wall.”

Police are investigating the graffiti as a hate crime
