NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A woman was killed by her own vehicle after suffering am medical episode on Wednesday, authorities said.
Just before 3 p.m. a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle collision in front of 2133 West 10th St. in Gravesend.
An investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by 87-year-old Joan Behan had entered a parked position in a private driveway.
According to officials, Behan opened the door before engaging the vehicle's gear selector in the parked position. As she partially exited the vehicle, she experienced an apparent medical episode, causing her to slump forward.
Subsequently, the vehicle began to roll backward down the driveway, leading to Behan being ejected. She fell to the ground and was fatally struck by the front driver's side wheel.
EMS transported her to Lutheran Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The investigation remains ongoing.
