Cab driver, 58, stabbed by passenger in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A cab driver was stabbed and wounded by a passenger who tried to rob him in Brooklyn this week, police said Sunday.

The 58-year-old cabbie picked the man up in front of the Sheepshead Bay B/Q line station shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

He then drove the passenger to E. 29th Street, near Avenue W, in Sheepshead Bay.

But instead of getting out, the passenger pulled out a knife and demanded money from him, police said.

The cabbie got out of the car and the passenger hopped into the driver's seat. As the cabbie confronted the man, he was stabbed in his left thigh, police said.

The attacker ran off and the cabbie drove home, where he called 911. He was taken by EMS to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect this weekend. Police believe he is in his 30s; they said he had his hair in a ponytail.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
