The city removed an illegal, 60-ton swimming pool from a rooftop in Brooklyn amid this week’s scorching heat wave.
The Department of Buildings said the 80-square-foot structure on Flushing Avenue in Williamsburg wasn’t up to code and had to be torn down.
The department tweeted a photo showing the water-filled pool under a blazing sun.
“New York. We know. It’s hot. We get it,” officials tweeted. “But please don’t try to build a rooftop swimming pool without first getting permits and hiring professionals to do the job properly.”
Officials said the pool had a depth of 4 feet and amounted to “just shy of 60 tons of water sitting on top of the roof of this occupied building.”
The pool was drained of water by Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't immediately known if anyone was penalized for the structure.
