Over 143K Con Ed customers in Brooklyn, Queens asked to conserve energy as crews repair cables

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Con Edison is asking over 143,000 customers in specific Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods to conserve energy as company crews repair electric cables.

The area includes the Queens neighborhoods of Broad Channel, South Ozone Park, Howard Beach, Lindenwood, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven and Kew Gardens as well as the Brooklyn neighborhoods of East New York, Cypress Hills, Highland Park and City Line.

"We are asking customers in certain neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens to conserve energy while our crews repair equipment," Con Ed tweeted. " We have also reduced voltage by 8% in the areas as precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are completed."

Customers are asked not to use use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews finish the repairs near Liberty Avenue and Bradford Street in Brooklyn and restore service to about 1,500 Queens residents.

Con Ed customers can report outages and check their service restoration status online, with their mobile app or by calling 1-800-75-CONED.
