NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 19-year-old construction worker was fatally struck by a cherry picker—reportedly driven by his father—at an East Village intersection on Friday morning, police said.

The victim was directing the cherry picker's operator through the intersection at East 7th Street and First Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle hit him, according to police.

He was unresponsive when EMS arrived and was later pronounced dead at the scene. He hasn't yet been identified.

The vehicle's operator, a 42-year-old man, remained at the scene and was being questioned by police.

Police didn't immediately confirm a report by WABC that the victim's father was behind the wheel of the cherry picker.

No arrests have been made in the case as the investigation continues.

No one else was injured.
