NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who tricked a 71-year-old woman out of cash and jewelry by claiming he was at her home to fix a leak.

The NYPD released images Friday of the suspect wanted in the July 4 home intrusion in Bay Ridge.

The victim was returning to her apartment at 84th Street and 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge around 12:40 p.m. when the man came up and offered to assist her with her walker, police said.

After she entered, he returned and knocked on her door, claiming he was there to “fix her water leak,” according to the NYPD.

He told her to “turn the water faucet on and off” as he made the fix—but instead, he stole cash and jewelry from the home, police said.

He managed to grab $230 from her purse and $900 worth of jewelry from her bedroom before fleeing the scene and down 4th Avenue, according to cops.

The victim wasn’t physically injured during the theft.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
