NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A new poll of the New York City mayoral race shows that former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani are dominating the Democratic primary.

The poll—taken after Mayor Eric Adams decision to run as an independent—shows the mayor’s support among Democrats going to Cuomo, who received 45% support in the survey. That's up from 41% in March and 35% in January, before he announced his campaign.

Mamdani's support meanwhile has surged to 22%. His support is up from 18% in March and 9% in January, according to the poll.

The poll was conducted by the Honan Strategy Group in partnership with the city’s five Chambers of Commerce to survey Democrats.

Coming in third was NYC Comptroller Brad Lander with 8%, followed by City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams with 4%, and former NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer with 3%.

The poll suggests a two-man race is taking shape between the moderate Cuomo and the progressive Mamdani.

“The race for second place at this point is very handedly being won by Assembly Member Mamdani,” said pollster Bradley Honan. “He’s winning 22%. He’s capturing energy and attention from the left flank. And he’s leaving both Lander and Stringer, who of course have been elected citywide, almost as afterthoughts.”

Honan said Cuomo’s level of support is so high that it “renders the rank and choice voting system not particularly meaningful.”

The poll surveyed 823 likely Democratic voters between April 16-17 and had a margin of error of  ± 3.41%.
