NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is reportedly investigating an assault in lower Manhattan on Saturday night in which a father was punched in the face and called an anti-Asian slur.

The 33-year-old dad had stopped his car at Canal Street and Cortlandt Alley on the border of Soho and Chinatown shortly after 8 p.m. to care for his sick son, police sources told the New York Post.

As the dad was parked, a man got out of a gray Acura and walked up to the victim, calling him an anti-Asian slur and then punching him in the face, the sources said.

The attacker fled in the Acura, while the victim later reported the assault at the NYPD's Fifth Precinct stationhouse, according to the sources.

The attack comes amid a spike in anti-Asian hate crimes in the city. A Queens man was charged with hate crimes on Saturday after he allegedly shoved and threatened an Asian undercover NYPD officer at a subway station in Long Island City.
