NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman who's reportedly a retired NYPD officer faces a murder charge after strangling her mother during a fight at their home on Staten Island over the weekend, police said Wednesday.
Mauri Belarmino, 40, was arrested after the medical examiner deemed her mother's death to be a homicide by strangulation.
She's charged with murder and strangulation, police said.
The charges stem from a Saturday afternoon fight at the family's home on Ramapo Avenue, near Marcy Avenue, in the Woodrow neighborhood.
Officers responding to a 911 call around 12 p.m. found Sherylyn Bailey, 74, unconscious. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police sources told the New York Post that Belarmino is a retired NYPD officer who left the fore in 2016.
Police had been called to their home in the past to break up fights, a police source told the Daily News. Belarmino reportedly struggles with mental illness.
Bailey was a breast cancer survivor and retired teacher, according to the report.
