NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Brooklyn Wednesday night while riding a scooter, authorities said.
The crash happened at the intersection of 19th Avenue and 81st Street in Bensonhurst around 7:55 p.m. as the young victim was riding a scooter in the crosswalk, police said.
A 24-year-old man driving a Tesla Model 3 tried to swerve away from the boy but ended up hitting him while driving along 19th Avenue, according to officials.
Responding officers found the boy lying in the street with trauma to his head. EMS workers transported him to Maimonides Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was uninjured. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
