NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A drunk driver who killed a New York City Department of Environmental Protection worker when he crashed into a city truck in Queens Thursday was arraigned that same day, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

Surveillance footage showed Errick Persaud, 24, speeding through a red light in a black Mercedes-Benz at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard in Richmond Hill around 2:30 a.m. before slamming into the DEP truck, according to officials.

The impact reportedly tipped the truck onto its side, ejecting and mortally injuring Michael Rodriguez, 36. The 40-year-old sitting in the truck’s driver seat suffered minor injuries.

Rodriguez died from severe head and body trauma at a local hospital.

In a breathalyzer test, Persaud blew .134 blood alcohol content, above the legal limit to drive of .08.

“Drunk driving is never acceptable and this defendant’s alleged selfish actions have led to tragic consequences for a city worker who was doing his job,” said Queens DA Melinda Katz. “We will seek justice for this victim and his loved ones.”

He was charged with manslaughter, assault, vehicular manslaughter and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Persaud’s next court date is slated for July 11.
