NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A worker was beaten at a Duane Reade in Manhattan as he tried to stop two robbers from stealing 20 bags of fruit candy, police said Tuesday as they released photos of the suspects.

The 40-year-old employee was working at the Duane Reade at 17 John St. in the Financial District around 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 23 when he and other workers noticed two males stealing 20 bags of German Haribo gummies.

The employees tried to stop the thieves, leading to a struggle inside the store, police said.

During the clash, the duo repeatedly punched the 40-year-old in the head "numerous times," according to cops.

They fled the store on foot and were last seen heading into the Fulton Street subway station about a block away, where they were allegedly caught on MTA surveillance cameras.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
