NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The NYPD is searching for two men on a moped who are suspected of multiple chain-snatchings across Manhattan this month.
Photos released by police Friday show the pair linked to at least four thefts in recent weeks.
The most recent theft was reported last Thursday evening in Midtown, where a 24-year-old man was targeted around 5:15 p.m. He was walking at West 55th Street and Sixth Avenue when the men zipped by and ripped a chain off his neck, police said.
Just hours before that at West 35th Street and Broadway, a 40-year-old woman was targeted by the duo as she walked around 2:15 p.m. The thieves rode past and snatched a necklace off her.
And last Wednesday on the Lower East Side, a 24-year-old woman was walking at Forsyth and Grand streets at 2:15 p.m. when she became a victim of the suspects' chain-snatching spree.
The first known incident in the spree was in Chinatown on Jan. 2. A 20-year-old man was walking at Canal Street and the Bowery at 4:30 p.m. when the suspects grabbed his chain, police said.
None of the victims were seriously injured, according to police.
These are just the latest thieves to use mopeds as a quick getaway vehicle in the city—a trend that's being seen more and more in crimes as the vehicles flood the streets.
