NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 24-year-old man on an electric bicycle was fatally struck by an FDNY vehicle headed to an emergency Wednesday night, authorities confirmed.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a bicyclist struck at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Sackett Street in Park Slope.
The NYPD's Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined a marked FDNY Pick-up driven by a 44-year-old man was traveling northbound on 4th Avenue with its emergency lights activated when he struck Victor Hidalgo a bicyclist traveling eastbound on Sackett Street.
The vehicle was racing to a report of a baby choking, according to FDNY officials.
EMS transported Hidalgo, a Bronx resident, to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
