NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The New York Yankees reconsidered the challenges of playing their scheduled game against the Miami Marlins during Monday’s solar eclipse, and pushed the game’s start time by four hours to accommodate the celestial event.
While it was originally scheduled for 2:05 p.m., the game will now begin at 6:05 p.m., the team announced on Thursday evening.
The solar eclipse will reach maximum coverage of nearly 90% in New York City at 3:25 p.m, on Monday, according to NASA. Skies will begin to darken at about 2:51 p.m. and will start lightening again at 3:58 p.m.
For fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the eclipse from Yankee stadium, the dream is still alive, as gates will open to guests with valid tickets at 3 p.m., the team said.
The first 15,000 guests in attendance will also receive a Yankees Solar Eclipse T-shirt, presented by HubSpot.
