NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- The Empire State Building will be illuminated in the colors of the flag of Ukraine on Thursday night to show support for the country one year after Russia’s invasion began.

The building will shine in yellow and blue, colors that symbolize a blue sky above a golden field of wheat in Ukraine.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in the early hours of Feb. 24, 2022, igniting a conflict that has killed tens of thousands, reduced cities to ruins and wrecked relations between Moscow and the West.

The Empire State Building also lit up in Ukraine’s colors shortly after the invasion began last year.

This year’s lighting is in partnership with CNN’s Impact Your World, organizers at the Empire State Realty Trust said.
