NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A bullet passed through an FDNY ambulance in the Bronx early Thursday morning, shattering the vehicle’s windows but just missing two EMTs sitting inside, authorities said.
The gunfire erupted shortly after midnight near the Butler Houses at East 170th Street and Webster Avenue in the Claremont section.
The two first responders were sitting in the parked ambulance when the bullet shattered a rear door window, passed through the vehicle and exited out the windshield.
Neither of them was struck. They were transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital for an evaluation.
The shooting happened just minutes after an 18-year-old man was shot in the stomach in the area, according to police, who said they’re investigating whether the two shootings are related.
It wasn't immediately clear if the bullet was intentionally fired at the ambulance or if it was a stray bullet.
The 18-year-old was hospitalized in stable condition and is expected to survive.
