FREEHOLD, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A former New Jersey sheriff's officer has been charged with videotaping himself sexually assaulting three unconscious women, prosecutors said Monday.
Joshua Padilla, a former Middlesex County Sheriff's Officer, was charged with eight counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, seven counts of third-degree invasion of privacy, four counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child on Friday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.
An investigation found that Padilla taped "numerous" videos of himself "performing sexual acts upon women who were clearly unconscious and unresponsive," the prosecutor's office said.
The sexual assaults took place between 2016 and 2018, according to prosecutors. Padilla also had "child sexual abuse materials" at his home in Eatontown, prosecutors said.
"These were truly unspeakable crimes against utterly helpless victims," Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said in a statement.
"We are encouraged by the progress made so far in shepherding this case through the criminal justice system, but troubled by the prospects of other victims being out there who have yet to come forward — and who may not even have known they were victimized," Linskey added. "We urge anyone with any information about the activities of this defendant to come forward and tell us what they know."
Padilla's attorney information wasn't immediately available Monday.
